The Guardia Civil lets you report offences committed through computer means online: online scams, fraudulent card charges or identity theft. The process is fully online, available 24 hours a day, and does not need to be ratified later at a station.
Before you start: gather the evidence
Evidence is the basis of the report. Have it ready before you open the form, so you do not have to start again.
- Block the card or payment method as soon as you see a charge you do not recognise. It is the first step the Guardia Civil itself recommends.
- Full screenshots, not cropped, showing the date, the time and the web address or phone number that was used.
- Suspicious emails: keep the original message as an .eml file, it holds the real sender details. If it arrived by SMS, screenshot the text with the sending number.
- Bank statement for each fraudulent charge: date, amount, merchant and the transaction details (holders, senders or beneficiaries).
- WhatsApp, SMS or social media conversations: screenshot them with the number or username visible and do not delete the chat. Write down a timeline of what happened too.
Step by step on the Guardia Civil website
Online report · Electronic Office- Check that your case can be reported online
The form only accepts incidents with no violence or intimidation, no known offender, no witnesses, not flagrant, reported by adults. If your case does not fit, book an appointment or go to a station.
- Prepare your electronic signature
You need a digital certificate, an electronic ID (DNIe) or Cl@ve. Without an electronic signature the report cannot be completed.
- Open the Electronic Office and choose the procedure
On guardiacivil.sede.gob.es open the “Denuncia Telemática” section and select “Estafas y cargos fraudulentos cometidos a través de medios informáticos”. The site is also available in Catalan, Basque, Galician, Valencian and English.
- Describe what happened and attach the evidence
Explain the events in order, with dates, amounts, links, phone numbers and the accounts involved. You can attach up to 10 documents: if you have more, group them by subject.
- Sign, send and keep the receipt
Once you sign it you will receive an electronic receipt signed by the Guardia Civil server: that is your proof, and the report does not need to be ratified at a station. Note the registration number and keep every file you sent.
Can be reported online
- • Fraud and fraudulent charges made through computer means: phishing, card, online purchases, transfers or Bizum.
- • Theft without violence, and loss, misplacement or location of documents.
Cannot be reported online
- • Incidents with violence or intimidation, with a known offender, with witnesses or flagrant offences.
- • Reports filed by minors, offences of a violent or sexual nature, disappearances and gender violence: go to a station as soon as possible.
Other cybercrimes this form does not cover
For online threats, identity theft, access to your accounts or data shared without permission, book an appointment or go to a Guardia Civil station; keep the evidence just as in a scam and call 017 (INCIBE) for free advice. The official AlertCops app lets you contact the Guardia Civil from your phone.
